A New Years Eve Wedding Filled with Shimmer and Sparkles

A couple about to kiss in a romantic setting, seen through a misty window. The woman wears a veil, and soft lights glow in the background.

I have been dreaming about my wedding day for ever. I've envisioned this so many different ways. From a summer picnic style wedding, to a elaborate destination wedding to a new years eve celebration.

Dave and I met at a house party 11 years, and two days prior. His cousin had invited some friends over, and although I knew her, It was a mutual friend that invited me to join her. My family had just come home from a week away and I was ready to keep the festivities going, so I said yes.

We bonded over a game of Cards Against Humanity and a bet that Dave won, and he likes to hold over me to this day. He always says he's the funny one.

We both fell HARD. I started spending more and more time at his place, weekends, then weeknights, then it felt like I never went home. It wasn't long before we rented our first apartment together and eventually bought our first home.

I wanted this wedding to be something for both of us. Although the glitz and the sparkle was all for me, Dave's love of music and the singer Frank Turner were fused with my love of sparkles, disco balls, the colour pink and the wonderful ms Taylor Swift.

We worked with some incredible vendors to make this happen.

Our venue had this stunning overhead grate that I needed as our focal point. We wanted to get married beneath it, dance beneath it and celebrate eveyrhting. I wanted to DIY as much as possible because I knew that was my cup of tea. I can't resist getting my hands dirty. I did invest in flowers. Part of me felt like I could have done most of this in the end, but the florist is the one that encouraged me to go after my vision and really have the fun I wanted to have. I als know from a timing point of view, DIY Flowers was not smart. What we got out of it, it was worth the spend to not worry about it.

Our wedding prep happened between my parents home and ours. We then ventured out alone to a local brewery for photos and a quick pint. The time together felt so intimate and personal, but was captured so beautifuly by Laken and Steph.

I'm really not sure there's much that could have made this night any better.

Our ceremony was short and sweet. Our families walked down the aisle, before Dave and our boys. Next My Dad and I.

What hit the mark for me were the details. The intricacies that no one else would notice, but me. From the customized, colour-coded name stickers on the records, to the guitar picks and disco balls hanging with escort cards, every detail was meticulously added by hand.

We have a collection of the most lovely polaroids, and a drum signed by all of our friends that now has a permanent home in our living room. I couldnt imagine a more fun evening than what we had. Hosting a new years eve wedding is 10/10 on the scale of good ideas. And the investment of food, and drinks, well that just takes it over the top.

also, if you dont have a friend that dances so hard they split their pants? You need new friends

a man with his pants split was the highlight of the night for the bride and groom at this new years eve wedding
